Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. Wiktionary is a wiki, which means that you can edit it, and all the content is dual-licensed under both the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License as well as the GNU Free Documentation License. Before you contribute, you may wish to read through some of our Help pages, and bear in mind that we do things quite differently from other wikis. In particular, we have strict layout conventions and inclusion criteria. Anonymous web browsing is browsing the World Wide Web while hiding the user's IP address and any other personally identifiable information from the websites that one is visiting. A degree of anonymity can be achieved by using a proxy server or a VPN server. If the proxy server is trusted, anonymity will be retained because only the information on the proxy server is visible to outsiders. Anonymous web browsing is generally useful to internet users who want to ensure that their sessions can not be monitored. For instance, it is used to circumvent traffic monitoring by organizations which want to find out or control which web sites employees visit. Anonymous Web Servers act as placing a wall between the user and the website which he/she is visiting. These servers can be used to bypass restrictions and visit those sites that might be blocked in a specific country, office or school. Some people only use these servers to protect their on line identity. From Wikipedia under the

Q. When surfing online anonymously, through the TOR network for instance, is it that *I* am anonymous and not the information being sent, or is the information anonymous and invisible as well? I'm just wondering if I get set up that way if I could send sensitive information online securely? Thanks. Asked by air - Sat Oct 3 03:52:31 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Anonymous web browsing is simply using a proxy to hide the IP address, or originating IP of the computer sending the packets of data. The data being sent is still open to normal interception. If it is sensitive information, you may want to look at using a free email such as hushmail that encrypts all information being sent. You could also look at encrypting the file on your pc, submitting via FTP, and allowing the receiving party to download, and giving the encryption key to decipher.
