Billing software for small office that sells services, not products?
Q. Need software that can do my billing (track payments, balances, print out invoices, etc.) but is geared to services, not products. When I look at QuickBooks it looks like you put in the product you are selling and the quantities and taxes. We do specific types of interviews and charge for them. We do not sell products, just our time. Any suggestions on what to research?

A. It all depends on how easy or difficult you want to make your life. Before you actually get your hands dirty, go and fish around some internet cafes and see what the standard it. Try and look for some of the up-market establishments (easyInternet and such) for good comparison. Usually, the cafe operator doesn t charge for use but for time, i.e., someone can sit in front of your computer for an hour and watch movies or write an email, and they will pay the same. You can enter basic patient demographics including insurance demographics (up to 3), and most importantly that has a scheduler to remind you of events previously scheduled and an open tab to type in as much 'note' type information as needed. It may not even be medical billing, its it is more for database, but MEDICAL billing database.

What's a good billing software solution for someone who doesn't bill by the hour (but rather by day/students)?
Q. I'm trying to replace an antiquated custom solution at my small business. We have employees who do have billable hours but also have employees who work in classrooms where we charge by the number of students or class days. Best software for billing for freelance or contract work?
Q. I might start doing some contract work for a company that requires me to bill it for my time. What software do you recommend for this task? I downloaded the free-trial version of kbilling, but that seems more geared toward billing for products. I didn't really give it a good try, so maybe I am wrong about kbilling. There is VSAT equipment connection to the hotel, and the idea is to have a server running a special software on the network, (The building has CAT 5 wiring) that controls the internet usage in a hotel. Each guest comes in and plugs his/her laptop to surf the web. But we need to know how long the person was on so we can bill them. Need something that will not require us to configure the guest's laptop. So the software that will help us achieve this is what I am looking for. Thanks
