Proper nounSingular Internet Plural - Internet
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to serve billions of users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private and public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope that are linked by a broad array of electronic and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries a vast array of information resources and services, most notably the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support electronic mail. Most traditional communications media, such as telephone and television services, are reshaped or redefined using the technologies of the Internet, giving rise to services such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and IPTV. Newspaper publishing has been reshaped into Web sites, blogging, and web feeds. The Internet has enabled or accelerated the creation of new forms of human interactions through instant messaging, Internet forums, and social networking sites. The origins of the Internet reach back to the 1960s when the United States funded research projects of its military agencies to build robust, fault-tolerant and distributed computer networks. This research and a period of civilian funding of a new U.S. backbone by the National Science Foundation spawned worldwide participation in the development of new networking technologies and led to the commercialization of an international network in the mid 1990s, and resulted in the following popularization of countless applications in virtually every aspect of modern human life. As of 2009, an estimated quarter of Earth's population uses the services of the Internet. The Internet has no centralized governance in either technological implementation or policies for access and usage; each constituent network sets its own standards. Only the overreaching definitions of the two principal name spaces in the Internet, the Internet Protocol address space and the Domain Name System, are directed by a maintainer organization, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The technical underpinning and standardization of the core protocols (IPv4 and IPv6) is an activity of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), a non-profit organization of loosely-affiliated international participants that anyone may associate with by contributing technical expertise. GNU Free Documentation License How do I get internet on a nokia 770 internet tablet? Q. I recently bought a nokia 770 internet tablet, it says that I access the internet through wifi or cellphone. Can someone give me the information on wifi? What is it? How do you use/activate it and are there any fees? Do I need services like an internet provider with monthly fees? Are there any other things that I may need to purchase? Asked by shauna - Tue Aug 7 10:28:36 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. You can go online 3 different ways with your new tablet. You can go online the same way you would with a laptop. You can use Bluetooth or you can pair it with a phone. The first link I put is a pdf file. If you go to page 20 it will show you the 3 different ways to go online. The second link is a interactive demonstrations which can help you go online also. Go to "Managing Connections" under "Feature Demos". Answered by uradork246 - Thu Aug 9 18:15:21 2007 How much does it cost to access internet on a Sprint phone? Q. I don't have unlimited internet, just unlimited messaging. Also, is the picture messaging fit under the unlimited messaging plan? Please don't tell me how much it costs for the unlimited plan that includes internet. I do not have that, and do not want to know. I solely want to know how much it costs to access the internet for picture messaging when I do not have an unlimited internet plan. Asked by flapjacksxx - Tue Mar 17 08:17:08 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. They charge 3 cents per kb. Cost will depend on how large the image file size is. If you want to lower your Sprint bill try www.onlinebillreview.com. I cut my bill in half. My bill used to be $150 a month. Answered by daxail - Tue Mar 17 12:39:43 2009 How will residential internet speeds continue to improve?
Q. Our computers are growing faster and more powerful by the day. Their rate of growth never ceases to slow. Judging by this mindset of speeds that keep advancing, one would imagine that the internet providers must also keep up a steady rate of growth. However, it seems if anyone isn't keeping up with current technology, it is the communication providers. Computers have doubled in speeds, yet DSL and cable internet speeds remain the same for residential consumers as they were 5 years ago. So how are they going to bring us the advances in residential connection technology that we are bound to receive? Asked by jr_9950 - Thu Feb 28 10:48:15 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. uh where do you live? broadband speeds are continuously growing. Comcast just announced at the start of the year that there speed will be 100mps by 2009. Plus you probably don't even have NICs, routers/switches, or even the cables to support the max speed your ISP gives you anyway. Its pointless for the to increase the speed when the majority of us aren't even using our full bandwidths. There are many changes all going on but it takes time for everyone to catch up to the point at which theycan switch over. The switch to IPv6 is a good example of this.
