what is minimum percentage require of Al2O3 in bauxite to produce Aluminium?
Q. Hello, i want to know that which grade of Bauxite is use to produce Aluminium? What is minimum percentage of Al2O3 require in Bauxite to produce aluminium? If someone can provide the full specification then highly appreciable. Thanks in advance.

A. Don't know what the specs are but this is an economic question rather than a chemistry question. If you have a "rich" ore, the Al2O3 content will be high so you will get a "good" amount of Al per ton. If the ore is "poor", you will get less Al per ton. The economic difference is how much processing is required before the Al2O3 goes into a pot line. Rich ore does not require a lot of "benifaction" (cleaning up) prior to use. Another consideration is the amounts and types of different impurities mixed in with the bauxite in the ground. Some impurities will not be a big deal, others will be a problem because of how those impurities react in the conversion process. Research Hall and Herolt processes, pot lines, Al production for primary… [cont.]

How would I go about getting aluminium from bauxite?
Q. I'm doing some extra credit for science. I need details on what to use, how to use it and what I'll get.
Asked by Finn - Sun May 24 03:59:07 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Aluminium is too reactive a metal to get any other way than by electrolysis. However bauxite is an impure form of aluminium oxide, but has a very high melting point indeed. So the cyrolite, mentioned in another answer, is added as a flux i.e.makes it all melt at a much lower temperature. Making aluminium metal is a high energy process anyway, as 3 electrons are needed to liberate one Al Al3+ plus 3e- = Al For this reason Al works are often situated near sources of power eg major hydroelectric power stations. It's not really something you can easily copy in the lab!

A. Rucker House is simply one of 18 places designated as historic sites in Saline County in Arkansas. It was designated as such in 1988 as it was a premium example of the architecture (officially called 'period of significance') from 1900-1924, having been built in 1905. It was originally a residence where the giant corporation of Alcoa (Aluminum Company of America) could have their executives families live. SD

A. That answer should be easily found on the internet or your textbook, but I'll give you a hand. Bauxite is the primary ore of aluminum. Things like airplanes, car parts, cooking utensils, and wires are made from aluminum. Copper is used to manufacture electrical wires. Zinc is used to manufacture batteries, electroplated steel, and sacrificial anodes. Gypsum is used to manufacture fire resistant wallboard.

A. Bauxite is ore for Aluminium, mainly composed of Al(OH)3. Major impurities are Fe2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and CaO. TiO2 has some commercial value. During purification of Bauxite by digesting it with Na OH, for Aluminium, red-mud contains all these impurities as hydroxides. Pure Al(OH)3 is precipitated from Sodium aluminate, and Red-mud is used to recover Titanium as byproduct. Gypsum itself is byproduct of many chemical reactions using H2SO4, or reactions of Lime containing minerals. For example Gypsum is byproduct in extraction of Phosphoric acid, and manufacture of Super-Phosphate fertiliser from Rock-phosphate - Ca3(PO4)2. Ca3(PO4)2 + 3 H2SO4 ---> 3 CaSO4 + 2 H3PO4

Q. You are also given that the bauxite contains 70% by mass of Alumina (Al2O3)

A. This a great question. I know that most metals or ores that are mined have material that it is unused and deposited somewhere, sometimes these unneeded deposits have a lot of toxic metals and elements in them. They can become runoff into water sources. I'm not positive if bauxite has deposits as I described...I'll have to look into it.

A. It does depend on the Bauxite ore, however one ton of Bauxite will yield approximately 1/2 ton of Alumina which will yield 1/4 ton Aluminium.

A. Just go to google and search for exactly those words. There are several references to it and descriptions of it. A pisolith is an accretionary body or nodule in limestone. Bauxite means that the pisoliths are made of aluminum ore. The rest is up to you.

A. Well its me again. I reckon what you want to know is "what is the clay found near bauxite used for?". I presume that this would be a whitish, high alumino-silicate clay. I was interested because I live near Attapulgus GA, USA. The Englehard Corporation owns much of the land around here specifically for mining clay. You can look them up on the internet. In fact, I learned that Attapulgite clay is named after the town in Georgia. Englehard makes coatings and catalysts as far as I know. Clays of that type were also known as fuller's earth. White clays are used for vessels (china). Kaolin clay is used for digestive disorders (Kaopectate). Look up Englehard, and I'm sure you'll find much more info. They must own several thousands of… [cont.]

Where is (BAUXITE) aluminium ORE mined and why the plant located there??
Q. any plant i was told by my science teacher that they are found commonly at the bottom of mountains, is that true and why??
Asked by Natalie - Wed Sep 3 12:53:56 2008 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Bauxite producers distribution map by country Mineral map includes bauxite (points) Compare to topo map Does not look to me like bauxite comes from the bottom of mountains. The grammar/syntax is confusing on the plant part. A mine obviously has to be where the mineral is. The processing plant can be located anywhere. Often it's close to the source to reduce transportation costs, but it can also be somewhere else if labor or energy savings are greater than transportation costs. The bottom of a mountain would make sense on the energy savings (hydroelectric). I couldn't find a good map for the processing plants, but I think there is one at the base of the Canadian Rockies.

Q. what is the balanced equation for the isolation of aluminum metal from bauxite ore?
Asked by alex - Sat Jun 5 18:49:34 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are a number of processes in extracting pure aluminium metal from bauxite. First, the aluminium oxide is dissolved in sodium hydroxide solution. Silicates remain undissolved, and other metals will form insoluble metal hydroxides which are filtered off; aluminium oxide will form the tetrahydroxoaluminate complex ion, which is soluble. Al2O3(s) + 2NaOH(aq) + 3H2O(l) 2NaAl(OH)4(aq) By filtering, the insoluble silicates and metal hydroxides can be removed. The filtrate is then acidified slightly and seeded with Al(OH)3 crystals, promoting the growth of Al(OH)3. NaAl(OH)4(aq) + H+(aq) Al(OH)3(s) + H2O(l) + Na+(aq) The Al(OH)3 is then heated to drive off the water and convert it to Al2O3. 2Al(OH)3(s) Al2O3(s) + 3H2O(g) The… [cont.]

A. Bauxite Mixture of Iron and Aluminium Hydroxides/Oxides Al, Fe, O, OH Bauxite does not require complex processing because most of the bauxite mined is of an acceptable grade or can be improved by a relatively simple and inexpensive process of removing clay. The History Says The first aluminum made in the US. was mined in Bartow and Floyd counties by the present Aluminum Company of America. A local man, Mr. Gibbons, operated these mines and also deposits in Arkansas, where the town near the deposits was named for him. He became a top official of Alcoa. The American Cyanamid Company mined bauxite to make alum. Large foreign deposits caused local mining to cease. The Present Scenario Exporting bauxite mines generated about US$1.4m in… [cont.]

A. Iron is combined with forms of carbon to make steel, a strong construction material. Copper is used to make electrical wire because it is a good conductor, pliable, and relatively cheap. Also because it is so pliable, it is used to make pipes. Pennies, although they are only steel, coated with copper. Bauxite, or aluminium ore, is smelted to get aluminium, which has many uses. Gypsum is found in you walls! Drywall or gupsum board is what walls are made from. The only thing I can think of for mica is kitchen countertops.
