Is there a firewall that will download inspite of other firewalls when they are running?

A. It's strongly advised to only use one software Firewall (Windows Firewall is considered to be a software firewall). More then one will make the firewalls conflict not to mention consume more of your resources. Please remove all but one firewall from your computer and your husband's. If you need more protection and you're using a high speed internet (DSL, cable, etc.) then consider purchasing a hardware firewall (found in routers) which can protect any computer within the network including your computer and your husbands. Note that hardware firewalls don't replace software firewalls (hardware firewalls can protect computers from internet attacks, but not network attacks where your software can do both), you can have both hardware and… [cont.]

How do I make my firewall allow others to join public online functions that I host?
Q. I have Windows Firewall. I play Warcraft III and I've asked around how to create a game, and to have people join it. When I create a game, others are unable to join it. Everyone that I've asked that can host games says that it has something to do with not having firewall on. Having firewall completely off is too risky for me. I don't completely understand it, but I want to know how to do this and have firewall on, letting it in, but still keeping everything else out.

How do I remove a firewall which is preventing me from using Limewire?
Q. It is not Norton Personal Firewall or the Windows Firewall both of which have Limewire as an exception. Yet Limewire indicates the presence of a firewall. I have another computer using my connection via wireless. Could that be it and what do I do to remove the firewall?
Asked by S K - Sat Jul 14 11:15:45 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It is probably the firewall at the router. Add Limewire to the trusted zone there. Also, if you are running both Norton and Windows firewalls on your PC, generally that is not a good idea. Not only do they compete for system resources slowing down your computer, but they can cause conflicts with each other. Turn off one or the other (your router firewall is separate from these).

A. If you recently gotten windows vista and still using old version of yahoo messenger, that might be the problem. Windows Vista has no Yahoo voice, you have to get the special vista compatible version of Yahoo Messenger downloaded. Just in case your firewall is blocking yahoo voice, please make sure you allow Yahoo ports 5001 and 5000 . those are the voice servers. Hope I helped, ...:)

A. You don't say what version you have. On XP do this: - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services - search for Windows Firewall in the list and 2-click - check if the boot option is set to Automatic, if not then do it - click OK - reboot - check if the firewall service is UP Everytime you boot up the service should start without your intervention. Regards, Suscriptor.

What is the best firewall recognized by windows security center?
Q. in Windows xp Service Pack 3. I have Comodo firewall pro but security center doesn't seem to know it exists on the computer. When I log into my modem there is a firewall option which is set to medium, is this the type of hardware firewall 'answerer 1' is talking about? I found out comodo does work you just have to turn off the built in xp firewall first.
Asked by Nool - Tue Jan 20 12:50:28 2009 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments
A. The best firewall is a hardware firewall. This is an external device that an intruder will have to break through before getting to your computer. In most cases it makes your computer near invisible to the internet (they see the firewall instead). Otherwise any software firewall is good. Just use the built in one.

How do you stop a firewall from blocking something?
Q. I have a firewall on my computer to protect my computer, though it's blocking where I download music from. Does any one know how to fix that?
Asked by Sarah - Sat Mar 15 12:11:48 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you are using Microsoft Firewall you need to open it up and add the Program that downloads the music to the list of exceptions. If you are using Zone Alarm or Mcafee or Norton what you need to look for is Program Restrictions...then you will see a list of programs. You need to find that program and then choose Allow instead of Block and save the changes. If you had been more specific...I could have been more specific as well.

A. I'm not sure I understand the question, but if you want to disable the firewall on a computer with a Windows operating system, open the control Panel and open Windows firewall. There it has an option to disable it. You might want to read "What else should I know about Windows Firewall".

A. Screw that vista defender its not that great of a software. I've searched for 2 years on to defend my computer since I broke two already. Learned from mistakes. First the web browser should be firefox(#1 browser in safety) Firewall is already good, no way of making it better besides turning it on.(Should already be installed on the computer) Antispyware the PC recommended would be spywareblaster. Then for anti-virus would be AVG-Free. Almost forgot, do not install more than one anti-virus program because it will slow down computer performance. These are all free and I use a vista home premium.

How safe is my firewall behind a modem router?
Q. I've been using Zone Alarm firewall (free edition) for many years now & in all security tests it comes up as all ports in stealth mode, so hackers don't know you're actually connected. I'm sure that beyond the router itself the ports on the computer's own IP are still in stealth mode but hackers now maybe KNOW that there is a computer there somewhere because of the router responses. A. Your Firewall is no less secure today than it was yesterday. The difference here is that your modem is what's showing those ports open. The Hurricane 9200 has a built in web-management engine so that you can configure it. It also allows telnet to it as well as FTP traffic. Below is a link to the products page. There's nothing you can do from the perspective of your firewall because it's your first device that's showing up as a problem. I would check out your documentation for the Hurricane to see if you can turn these features off or at least restrict them to a specific IP Address. That would make your modem secure and you would probably show up as Stealth again as long as the modem drops the packets and doesn't simply reset them.… [cont.]

A. Comodo has the best free firewall out there. If you download it,just get the firewall and not the anti-virus as AVG is better than Comodo's. You can get the Comodo Internet Security program at CNET at After it's installed, disable your Windows firewall. Make sure that Norton is disabled before you begin the uninstall or it will leave live and active files and folders behind that will prevent you from installing another anti-virus.

Q. I need to disable the firewall to play Super Smash Brothers online, but can't figure out to do it. Nintendo says that it needs disabled, so I really need to do it to get the game working. Does anybody know how? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A. Hello If you would like I can teach you how to get into your routers interface which will allow you to make the necessary adjustments to your settings. Step 1) Click on the start menu Step 2) Click Run Step 3) Type in CMD then clik OK Step 4) In the black box you will type in ipconfig without any spaces. Step 5) Hit the enter Key Step 6) Write down the default Gateway ex: (192.168.0.x) (the default gateway is the address of your router) Step 7) open up your internet Explore and type in your default gateway in the address bar. Make sure you put the dots as it appeared in the little black box (the Dos screen) then hit GO or Enter. A. You should not have to adjust firewall settings to download Messenger Sounds like you may have tried to download without clearing out your browser or failed to check the Messenger file was empty before uploading your new messenger. If you have "Speedbit video accelerator" installed - lose it ( known conflicts with Yahoo. When downloading/uploading close all other programs. I suggest you download and run ccleaner first before you proceed further. Run it through a couple of times - include "registry" from the left hand toolbar. Do not be alarmed at the amount of files you have to delete, especially if you do not clear it on a regular basis. Use this path to uninstall and remove the old messenger software. > Start > computer > local… [cont.]

What kind of firewall sytem do banks use to keep information safe?
Q. I am debating electronic health records and I always compare the banking system with hospitals. I am saying why can't we have a secure electronic health record system for hospitals especially when banks are doing it every day? I have only heard of Citrix firewall for government and others, are there any more companies that make firewalls for banking systems, credit card systems, or any other system that need to be secure 24 hours a day?
