How to get my photos from a photographer in a trade situation?
Q. I was in a photo shoot for a jewelry company and the photographer will not send me my photos that were part of the agreement for the shoot. What can I do to get her to send me my photos? She is professional and has shot for magazines like Rolling Stone.

A. "will not send me my photos that were part of the agreement." Be diplomatic and nice, remind them a few times. If that does not work you may want to consider seeking legal counsel. I would use that as an absolute last resort though.

What is the law regarding taking photos in a public place?
Q. I like to record local history changes. Buildings under constuction, shops ect. Shop keepers say I am not alowed to take a photo of their shop and sometimes the situation gets nasty. I take photos decretly and also remove personal details like people and car nos from the data on my computer in case an alergation is later made that I am photographing people. Mind you the press often photograph people who don't want to be and publish the the photos. I also take photos of statues and have been told by 'security' that I am not alowed to do this. Why? I am not on private land.

Dont listen to them, you can take pictures of anything you want as long as it is not "private property" which means you can not go on the store owners steps and snap pics without his or her permission.But you can stand on the "public" sidewalk or street to take your pic, And you can damn well take the pics of a statue those are bought with tax dollars.

How do I rotate my photos without lowering the quality of my photos?
Q. When rotating my digital photos I get a command prompt saying that my photo will be permanetly resized and may lower the quality of my picture.

A. There are several utilities available for multiple platforms that allow "lossless jpeg rotation"... a program like Picasa or ACDsee can handle this task quite nicely. The only other way to preserve the exact original quality is if you have access to the original RAW image file (or other uncompressed original, such as .TIF) from the camera. Many digital SLR cameras allow this, and some point-and-shoot cameras do, as well. With such a file, you can rotate and perform other actions to the photo in its uncompressed state. So when you save it as a .jpg, it's the first time it's being compressed. Otherwise, simply re-saving a .jpg to an uncompressed format like TIF before rotating will just render the original jpeg artifacts in the .TIF… [cont.]
